2nd day Chusur over Kampala pass to Baidi
We wake up in the dark as the sun doesn’t raise till 8 and we need to get going. we approach the beginning of the Kampala pass around 9:30 and start climbing the 35kmX1200meters climb. Its not steep but never ending switchbacks and the high altitude make it look impossible. Around 5 hrs later we cross the summit with an excruciating headache..time for a few pictures and some jam sandwich and down we go for a 400mters downhill that take us to the shores of Yamdrok Lake. 20 min rest in my tend and 1000mg of painkiller put my head at ease, ready to bake my first camping bread.
First Day cycling..Lhasa to Qushur

First Day of cycling along Lhasa valley to Chusur, we take it easy trying to understand what it means to cycle at this altitude. We gradually go from the ugly Lhasa suburbs to a rural Tibetan scenery. Blue rivers connect to each others reflecting the bluest sky I have ever seen. there is so much light, is almost overwhelming. Eyes can stretch the view to afar and everything looks clear. This is what cycling in thin air looks like. BLUE, clean and cold.
getting the last supplies ready and visiting Lhasa
The last 2 days have been very hectic, lots to see, and not enough time considering we had to get all the supplies ready for the ride. In the next 6 days riding we will meet very little towns, scarcely populated and we need to stock on the essentials. Water, instant noddles, muesli, dry fruits and nuts and so on.
Lhasa has a good selection of everything you need along the way, is just priced at around 30% more then in eastern china. a good place to get supplies is bayia supermarket on (Beijing road), next to agricultural bank of china on the right of the Potala palace (if u are facing it). for fresh grocery and fruits…all around the Barkhor area is good.
We stocked a lot of water as on average we will need 4 liters just while cycling. plus the cooking, that would make it around 5 liters of water per person per day. We are 4 so we got 120 liters.

This should get us to Shigatse, the next “big” city..where we can buy more.
Packed and ready to go!
Is that a bit too much!! what you mean is overweight??…get the bike on the flight and shut the F@#% UP!!!!!!
